I'm drawn to long distances. Solo sailing to Hawaii and back. Thru-hiking a thousand miles of the Appalachian Trail. Cross-country motorcycling. Long mountain bike rides through the East Bay hills, the classic trails of Marin, and the otherworldly landscapes across Southern Utah. There's something about sustained effort over time that reveals what actually matters.
For nearly 20 years I've been a US Sailing instructor on San Francisco Bay, teaching everything from docking to offshore passage making. I love breaking down complex skills into learnable steps, watching someone go from nervous to confident at the helm.
What excites me most is designing, building, and refining elegant systems. Whether it's a navigation plan, a training program, or a piece of software, I want it to feel inevitable. Like it couldn't have been built any other way.
